The DAKC offers training classes and hosts competitions in several core compentencies.

Agility
Agility training builds teamwork between dog and handler and demonstrates a dog's willingness to work in a variety of situations. It requires conditioning, concentration, training and teamwork.

Conformation
Conformation is the evaluation of a dog compared to its breed standard, including grooming and presentation of the dog to its best advantage in the show ring. The written standards are written by the AKC and the breed parent club and describe the ideal dog.

Flyball
Flyball teaches dogs to retrieve a tennis ball from a launcher and run it back to the owner. They work as a team with 3 other dogs.

Obedience
Obedience training classes are offered free of charge to senior citizens and to those who have adopted a dog from the Decatur Animal Shelter. Proof the adopted dog has been spayed or neutered is required.
